Dynamic text or comments box

Dynamic text/comments boxes are used to collect open-ended comments from the respondents when they select options. This allows you to collect additional information about the option selected by the respondent.

Typically, this can be used in the following scenario:

Which is your favorite smartphone brand?

• Apple
• Samsung
• Motorola
• OnePlus

A text box should appear to specify the reason for choosing the option when the respondent selects any of the options mentioned above.

There are two ways of adding the dynamic text/comments on your survey:

1. Directly from the question:

• Go to: Login » Surveys (click on a survey) » Edit.
• Click on add questions and add all questions in your survey.
• Go to an option and click on the corresponding arrow.
• Select dynamic comment box and enter the label - "why?"
• Similarly, you can add dynamic text boxes to other options too.

2. From the question logic:

• Go to: Login » Surveys (click on a survey) » Edit.
• Click on add questions and add all questions in your survey.
• Hover over the question on which you wish to apply logic and click on logic.
• A pop-up will appear.

• Click on Dynamic Text/Comments.

• By default, Dynamic Text Box is disabled for each option. Go to the answer option you wish to enable dynamic comment, and select Enabled from the drop-down.
• A comment box will appear on the right side, type the label for the dynamic comment box here - "Why?"
• Similarly, you can enable dynamic text boxes for the remaining options too.
• Click on Save Logic

While taking survey, if the respondent chooses option the dynamic text box appears below the last answer option.

For example, if the respondent selects Apple then, a text box with label "Why?" appears below the last answer option.

In the comment box, the respondent can type the reason for selecting Apple as the favorite smartphone brand.

Comments entered by the respondents in the dynamic text box will be automatically included in your Report as a separate field that follows the question it was applied to.

To download report:

• Go to: Login » Surveys (select a survey) » Analytics » Dashboard.
• Click on Download Data and Reports.

• Under Download Raw Data section, you can download the report in Excel or CSV format.
• In the downloaded report, you can see the a column - Dynamic Comment with all the comments entered by the respondents.

Dynamic text/comments box can be enabled for the following question types:

• Multiple choice (select one)
• Multiple choice (select many)
• Drop-down menu
• Multi-point scale (matrix single select)
• Matrix multi-select
• Smiley - Rating

It means that the system has detected that you've tried to remove dynamic text/comment option from a question. However, the system also has prior collected data (while you were testing?) for that question. To avoid data corruption issues, you need to delete all the data collected.

Yes. The two of them are independent.

Yes. For each of the items make sure you choose the dynamic comment option where you want to trigger it.

Yes. We do support dynamic comments with multiple choice (choose all that apply) question types. Enabling dynamic comments will introduce another column in the export file. This column will store the open-ended text data.

Please do not change the question type (Eg: Radio Button » Checkbox) after enabling dynamic comments on your question. This is not supported and will result in data inconsistency.

Yes. All other logic functions are available when dynamic text boxes are used for a question.

You can add upto 5 criterias in a logic.

No, however you can do this by adding multiple comment box questions and using show/hide logic to show or hide them based on the answers to the survey. Please contact our support team for further assistance.
